I just spent some time telling Esther and Paul that I dread when a couple tells us, “We want fun picture!” because, inevitably, they aren’t people that look like they’re having a good time. Luckily, everyone was having an AWESOME time at Esther and Paul’s wedding. They are the perfect example of not worrying about when things go wrong and choosing to have an amazing wedding. And since their family took over bar-tending at the wedding the drinks were flowing straight onto the crazy dance floor. It was a day of great portraits, beautiful light, and a whole lot of laughter.

Autumn Wedding at the Garden City Hotel

Tifini and Bill’s wedding at the Garden City Hotel couldn’t have had more planned perfection – and Tifini worked round the clock to get it there! With personal touches including a State Police chaplain as their officiant and chocolate abounding everywhere, it all came out beautifully. They arranged for portraits at Old Westbury Gardens and then went on to the hotel for a rocking reception.

Tony and Arlene are one of those couples that always put a smile on our faces. We love photographing wedding of friends and families of our couples; and Tony and Arlene are no different. We photographed their friends, Chris and Christine’s wedding a few years ago, where Arlene caught the bouquet and Tony caught the garter! Soon after they were engaged, Arlene came to us, since she wanted us to be a part of her day! We were so honored to be asked!

No one would have imagined that a Thanksgiving weekend wedding would have sunny skies and temperatures in the 70′s! Still, it was just a perfect wedding day for Tony and Arlene.

Kevin and MeeJin planned a wedding filled with stylish and modern details – so many that MeeJin was thrilled to finally have her wedding. They ended up with quite a long engagement, albeit somewhat unintentionally. Hurricane Irene’s unanticipated arrival and mandatory evacuation of their venue added a few more months to their engagement after all their planning was complete. However it arrived, their day ended up being beautiful and full of love and laughter… and a really great getaway car.

Long Island Country Club Wedding

It was just about perfect for an October wedding, with a little added wind as a bonus! Jenna and Brian found a perfect venue for their wedding on Long Island and started it off right with a touching moment seeing each other for the first time at a local Glen Cove park. We walked the beach with their bridal party, wind and all. They personalized the evening with both a monsignor and rabbi, mixing their two religions in a mingled ceremony. And then they partied!

Rainy Day Wedding with Bicycles at Bourne Mansion

You can tell a lot about people when things go “wrong.” Oh their wedding day, it poured. I mean, it was really coming down in buckets for a good portion of the day, to the point that we were considering using an umbrella to get our closed bags of gear ten feet away from the porch to the car! But Brian and Leigh took it completely in stride and made the best of it. They had the perfect attitude about everything and we love them for that and so many other reasons!

Leigh originally was set on a small beach wedding with something like ten people, so it was a big step moving to a traditional church wedding at a wedding venue. They kept it relaxed and brought their beach cruisers to the Bourne Mansion in homage to original plan. Leigh gave Brian a surfboard and Brian gave Leigh a tandem beach cruiser as wedding gifts, so what could be more perfect than riding their bikes along the tree-lined drive up to the mansion?

As we just heard Renee’s dad say, John and Renee planned a wedding full of joy. Though one could say their wedding was many, many things, “full of joy” is the perfect way to describe their day. From Tribeca to Brooklyn and then back to Manhattan at City Winery, it was also full of beauty and great food as well! Joe will tell you that the beverage of choice (John’s family’s own wine) was awesome, and I’ll tell you that the pistachio flavored cake was amazing.

Oheka Castle Wedding at Summer’s End

Todd and Taryn’s Oheka Castle wedding was an event that lived up to the label of elegance. Starting first at a Long Island cathedral, they moved on to the castle in a perfect Rolls with the bridal party following by limo bus. Fragrant white roses mixed in with other blooms in shades of white adorned every inch of Oheka. Some of the best parts, though, were the decidedly personal touches they included, like the construction cone escort cards. And that’s not even counting how many great old clients friends we saw at this wedding!

This might be one of my favorite wedding locations in the local area. We really, really loved the vibe at My Moon Restaurant and couldn’t be happier with Jessica and Keith’s choice to hold their wedding there! In addition to the great decor Jess and Keith provided, My Moon has funky cabanas and ivy and rust covered backdrops – all on top of an awesome staff. They chose a great team of vendors as well and it all came along into a beautiful, relaxed, smooth wedding.

A Wedding at Land’s End

When Erin originally inquired with us over a year ago, she said a few key words that caught my eye. She told us a little about her wedding, but mostly she mentioned that she’d been searching for good examples of photography composition to show her high school Photography 101 students and came across our website. I love working with other artists, perhaps a given having been raised by an art teacher. We met with Erin and shortly after, we marked her wedding date on the calendar as booked. Fast forward a bit over a year and we met up with them and their families for getting ready, where we were met with warm welcomes and lots of gorgeous hot pink!

I like a lot of the touches they included in their day, from the small pink ribbons in honor of Erin’s mother, to the matching candle, programs, and invites that Erin designed herself. Eric looked very dapper on his way over to St. Mary’s as well!

Hindu Wedding for Two Photographers, Part I

When we receive an initial inquiry from “two avid photographers” it’s always a little suspect. It’s not because we’re nervous shooting other photographers, but because we always wonder how much the couple really knows about photography! Do they know just enough to be dangerous? Do they think because they took Photo 101 in high school that they’re really great photographers. Or, as in Sunny and Kelsey’s case, are they actually good and actually appreciative of the work and creativity we pour into our work? Luckily, they’re both really great, and Joe and I really enjoyed looking through their honeymoon photos on Facebook! Plus, it’s not everyday we get to photograph the awesome wedding of people who describe themselves as “ambiguously Caucasion” and “super laid back photo geeks.”

Kelsey and Sunny had a combined mehndi and sangeet at Akbar Restaurant for their first day, with the second day at Woodbury Country Club. We’ve got a little of both on this post with more to come later this week!

Rustic Touches for a Tobay Beach Wedding, Part I

Tina and Danish are the kind of couple that makes beach living look cool. They have an adorable little bungalow in Long Beach and love the atmosphere down there, so when it came time to plan their wedding they couldn’t imagine getting married anywhere else but the beach. They found an outdoor venue on Tobay Beach perfectly suited for their large wedding crowd and sprinkled in plenty of DIY details. Danish’s family hosted the combined mehndi and sangeet at their family home nearby a couple days earlier and between family performances and great food, hosted an equally festive wedding celebration.

We love these next two photos. Zain, brother of the groom, wrote a song for Tina and Danish that brought the house down. Their flower girl also wowed the crowd with an adorable performance!

Summer Holiday Wedding at the Garrison

We spent more than a year excited about Daniela and Quoc’s wedding at The Garrison on the July 4th holiday weekend, and they ended up with just about everything at their wedding. The guys went to Costco the day before to buy a couple packs of golf umbrellas “just in case” it rained, and it’s a good thing they did! It rained throughout their church ceremony, cleared up just in time for family photos at The Garrison, randomly rained again when we started couple portraits, cleared up again with beautiful sunlight streaming through the sky, and then – you guessed it, rained again later in the evening. They celebrated the holiday with sparklers, incorporated Quoc’s photography into their table numbers, and shared in both their Italian and Vietnamese heritages throughout the day.

Michelle and Rob were pretty spectacular on their wedding day. They have the perfect blend of a go-with-the-flow attitude, style, and a sense of fun. This all started with their wedding rehearsal the day before the ceremony in a church that lost power! Luckily, the wedding day itself, though warm, was beautiful and gave them an awesome sunset view from the Bayville Crescent Beach Club.

Last fall, Fiona fell in love with a few images we posted on our blog and inquired with us about photographing her wedding. Unfortunately, we were already booked for her wedding day. Within a few weeks, however, our other couple moved their wedding date and we, on a long shot, emailed Fiona to see if she was still interested in having us be a part of her day. It all works out in the end, and we were so happy to be a part of Fiona and Joel’s wedding day at the Sandcastle! It was a big, big party with lots of light, lots of food, and a whole lotta dancing.

When we received the list of group photos from Alison, she checked off the “standard” poses and added a special group photo: the ultimate frisbee friends. That’s how you know how fun Pete and Alison are! They planned a lovely wedding day starting in Garden City at St. Josephs and ending at the Manhassat Bay Yacht Club overlooking the Sound. With the yacht club as a good base, they went for a nautical theme and included blues throughout the day, adding in personal touches like Pete’s custom cufflinks portraying their dog.

Kelsey + Sunny’s Ceremony + Reception: Sneak Peek!

It had to happen. I’ve finally broken my years-long record of not having an outdoor ceremony rained out. And really, it couldn’t have happened at a better time. Kelsey and Sunny’s priest invited everyone into the gazebo to create a surprisingly intimate Hindu ceremony for them when the light rain began. The rest of their day went wonderfully, and it’ll be tough to pick our favorites from this wedding of two photographers getting married with beautiful color and celebration.

Amanda and Keyur planned a full day combining their Catholic and Hindu religions and heritages into a beautiful set of ceremonies, gorgeous decor, and family-focused reception. They wanted outdoor ceremonies, but the threat of rain moved them indoors for both the morning Hindu ceremony and the afternoon Catholic ceremony. Rather than fret, they made the most of it and had so many moving moments. Amanda looked splendid in Indian wedding wear, Keyur perfectly handsome. We’ll have more later on the Western part of their day.

Amanda had Poppies & Posies make a custom floral headpiece for each outfit – they really made her look!

While we bummed for Amanda and Keyur about the indoor ceremony, it definitely made for a more intimate environment.

By the way, horses eat flowers. It certainly made for a funny moment when he decided Keyur’s garland made a better lunch than necklace!

Sunny and Kelsey’s combined sangeet and mehndi evening at Akbar Restaurant rose to our expectations and was a blast! Tina called us with a problem a few months ago. We were already going to photograph her wedding, of course, but they wanted some photos of the mehndi ceremony and also wanted to invite us as guests to attend the evening’s festivities. So we promised to bring only one camera each and spend our time doing both, much to everyone’s satisfaction! We’ve got more photos in store soon of the beach wedding day in Long Beach, but for now, a couple favorites from the mehndi at Danish’s family home are ready to show. Included below is one of my favorite moments, when Danish’s brother Zain performed a song he wrote for Tina and Danish.

Keep calm and carry on: I think this sums up Matt and Jen’s wedding pretty well! They have this saying mounted on their living room wall and then Jenn gave Matt cufflinks with the quote as well. Their music-themed wedding was a blast, and we can’t wait to work on more of their photos!

On a brisk April afternoon we walked into Anna’s hotel room and new immediately what a beautiful wedding we were about to witness! Joe split up with the guys while I stayed with the ladies and then we met up for Anna and Mike’s first look before heading out for some portraits in the woods. They both have tremendously supportive friends and family and hanging out with Anna’s bridesmaids was a treat for me. They arranged for a pre-ceremony cocktail hour in order to have their ceremony at sundown and then went straight into their icy-toned reception. We’re so excited to finally share these images with Anna and Mike!

Beach meets Wildflowers at a Wedding in Roslyn

Sam came to meet with us almost immediately after her bridesmaid role in a wedding we photographed and told us all about her laidback idea of a wedding with wildflowers, her fiancee’s fire truck, and a good party atmosphere. And she and Andrew both delivered just that with the help of Sam’s mom, Janet! They organized the ceremony at a local church, borrowed a friends blue ’61 Bel Air as the getaway car after a quick ride in the fire truck, arrived at their venue with wildflowers arranged in vases Sam’s grandfather collected from garage sales over the last year, enjoyed a cocktail style dinner, and partied on into a great night of dancing. In the midst of it all, we captured some great moments between their families.

On to the images! One of the reasons we like this first image so much is that Janet had the exact same image taken in front of that very mirror when she married Sam’s dad. What a beautiful way to honor family!

Some of the images just outside their Glenwood Landing church were so fun! Andrew is a volunteer member of the fire department and had them bring Truck #8 out to the church!

We followed Sam and Andrew (dodging the flying cans along the drive!) to a local beach for some of their wedding portraits.

Then, on to George Washington Manor for their wedding reception.

Springtime Central Park Elopement

Candice and Dan contacted us from Australia about photographing their intimate wedding in Central Park and ended up with one of the prettiest spring afternoons we saw all month. What’s not to like about flowering trees and a soft breeze blowing Candice’s veil in the wind?

We witnessed their lovely ceremony at Gapstow Bridge and then took a meandering walk through Central Park and then onto the Library building near Bryant Park and their hotel for the remainder of their portraits. Dan and Candice thought NYC would be the perfect place to marry, and with a day like that I couldn’t agree more.

With the help of Sarah Ritchie, Candice and Dan planned an intimate ceremony at the bridge, complete with saxophone serenade, champagne, and bubbles.

It’s a long time coming for Lauren and Matt’s wedding blog post! Between our traveling and their busy schedules, it took a while to find a date for their image premiere. Lauren’s excited emails about seeing her wedding images were a joy to receive, especially in the last week. She and her whole bridal party were great sports about traipsing around downtown Manhattan for their photos on a chilly December day, though, so it makes the wait for these photos more worthwhile. On a side note, I think Lauren and her bridesmaids had the best pre-ceremony ritual ever, singing along with the Glee soundtrack in the bridal suite. With Bridgewaters as their venue choice and the Brooklyn Bridge’s lights as their twinkling backdrop, the reception was a party just waiting to happen.

Kittle House Westchester Wedding

When Biana and Adam called us to see if we were available to photograph their wedding less than two months away, a lot of thoughts ran through our heads? Why so close to the date? What kind of wedding would it be?

Biana answered them quite easily. They were planning the wedding quickly to ensure Adam’s grandfather could be a part of it. As for the type of wedding? A fun, casual event that could bring as much of the outdoors into the Kittlehouse with them. Their chuppah was made of birch poles and their favors mini terrariums. When we asked if their were any restrictions, we got an enthusiastic “No party poopers” as a response!

October Wedding at 632 on Hudson

Whew! It’s not often we can claim six past or future couples as clients at a single wedding, but we could at Jeff and Kerri’s! They planned an awesome wedding the day before Halloween at 632 on Hudson, even supplying their guests with colorful masks as we neared midnight for the holiday. Playing off the venue’s decor, they planned an intimate ceremony with guests looking on from four floors of balconies.

Francine and Jon had a wild and craaaaaaazy wedding! There was so much going on, so many dance moves, so much everything. They had some very unique touches to the wedding from the cake tower designed by the “Cake Boss” to Jon’s custom-made brown tuxedo. Francine gave each of the bridesmaids a brooch or other piece of jewelry with a butterfly on it. For her maid of honor, a butterfly and skull!

Their ceremony was on the boardwalk overlooking the beach of Long Branch and Paradise Pier, and in addition to all their guests a ton of passersby stopped to watch their ceremony.

And I love this moment when I caught Fran and brother Brad doing some synchronized dancing!

Jamie + Andrea’s Wedding at Le Chateau

The last weekend in September we spent with Andrea and Jamie up in Westchester at the picturesque Le Chateau. Between Andrea’s mom’s help planning the wedding and the awesome staff, it was about as much of a stress-free wedding we could imagine. And, if I may say, their families couldn’t have been nicer helping me out by holding doors as I tried to hobble through on a sprained ankle. Their sunset ceremony was beautiful and party pretty wild with dancing.

Such is the case with Alex and Darren who booked us sight unseen last year, and when we finally met them at their July engagement session on the hottest day of the summer we knew we would hit it off for the wedding. Alex planned a ridiculously modern and beautiful wedding at the Hall of Springs in Saratoga Springs, NY. Since Alex and Darren live in Boston and had guests coming from as far as Ireland, they also planned a whole weekend of activities including a pool party and day at the tracks.

Nick and Christina joked around about their “Big Italian Wedding” for months before the day arrived, and with guests flying in from Italy it’s no wonder. In the end, they had a beautiful wedding with lovely details, a very mild September day at The Manor, and the help of many family and friends. Really, what else could you ask for your wedding?

There’s so much to say about Kathleen and Chris’s wedding at Infant Jesus in Port Jefferson and Hamlet Willow Creek down the road, and I hardly know where to start! This couple amazed us at their engagement shoot by moving fluidly from nervous jitters into some knockout images, so we had pretty high expectations for their wedding day. I think we made a great collection of images for them, and that’s just the start; we were so happy to be a part of their day and watch them move, again, from nervous jitters into a killer party that night!

Summer Bridgewaters NYC Wedding

A few things that we loved about Rich and Jen’s Bridgewaters wedding: rather than rent limos, taxis, or party buses, they hired pedicabs for transportation. They also wanted to hit a few of our favorite downtown locations for portraits after the ceremony. Jen’s father, Tom, did an amazing job with the flowers and matching the feel and decor of the room. And their band had the floor hopping the entire night, even halfway through dinner!

Old Field Club Wedding on Long Island

Ilana and Mike planned a really great day. They picked a venue without time blocks so they could enjoy the day rather than feeling rushed, they rented a school bus as transportation to give everyone the space they needed, and they had a really great photo booth to provide entertainment to the non-dancing crowd. Oh, and they hired us to cover it all!

We started in Port Jefferson for getting ready images and family portraits, then moved on to a beach near the Old Field Club where they were married and partied. With cottage-like flowers and the lodge decor, their whole day seemed more intimate.

Long Island Summer Wedding for Kelly and Ryan

I know I mentioned it in the sneak peek, but I have to say it again. It’s truly a joy to photograph people you know. Joe photographed Ryan’s older sisters when they married, and we’re photographing his older brother’s wedding next June. There’s something so welcoming about arriving on scene to see friends and family you’ve known for several years.

Charming Backyard Wedding in New Jersey

When we arrived at Pia’s parent’s home in Allentown, NJ, we felt right at home ourselves. Allentown is a quaint, historic village in southern NJ. Her parent’s had this charming home in since Pia was a teenager, and their whole family spent many summers and weekends there, enjoying the town and creating wonderful memories, so it was a natural choice for their wedding venue.

Pia’s parents took great pride to help Pia and Dan make their wedding day perfect. A beautiful sailcloth tent sat on one side of the property for dining and dancing. They decorated primarily with potted plants and candles under the tent. Lanterns lined the driveway and around the tent.

Pia and Dan had such a beautiful, personal wedding. Pia originally found us on Green Bride, a philosophy she and Dan are close to. Pia choose to design a menu, using in-season local and organic foods The barn behind the house was the centerpiece of their wedding ceremony, which was performed by one of their best friends

I love all the emotions abounding throughout the day:

One of the personal touches we loved seeing was the ring warming ceremony. Dan and Pia asked everyone to pass their wedding bands along a ribbon and send blessings along the way as they made their way through all the guests at the ceremony. I though it was a beautiful way to connect each and every guest with them.

What do you know, they’re dancing around the kitchen again!

Jersey City Hyatt Indian Wedding

Nishma and Punit have been waiting a while for these two days, and we were thrilled to be a part of it. We were with them for their pre-wedding cocktail party on Friday through the end of their reception on Saturday night. We shot a ton, because they kept presenting us with amazing photographic opportunities! They also put together a great team of vendors, and the entire time went off without a hitch because we all worked so well together:

This was, quite possibly, the perfect wedding to start the 2010 season. Jordyn and Dan planned a lovely little spring wedding upstate in Garrison. Jordyn planned down to every detail, including all the girls fingernails painted with dots like her father used to paint hers as a little girl. Of course, we love this detail: Jordyn hounded Dan to get into contact with us because she “had to have us.”

I’m so excited to share these two images! Dan and Jordyn are beautiful people, and we truly enjoyed the welcoming nature of their wedding. They had friends and family from all over the country at The Garrison to share on their big day, and we feel truly blessed to have been a part of their wedding day.

Marina Del Rey Wedding: Katelynn + Michael

What can we say about this couple? They are perfect for one another! Their wedding day was about each other – Katelynn was so enthusiastic and happy every second of her day; Michael was so overwhelmed seeing his bride for the first time. There was so much love between everyone, and it made our jobs so hard.. so many moments happening all at once!

They were troopers indeed… Even though the sky was gloomy and the temperatures were dropping, they enjoyed a few minutes of twilight before heading off to their reception venue.

What gorgeous room lighting – it was everything Katelynn and Mike hoped for on their wedding day! Roses everywhere!

The highlight of their reception room details… mom and dad ordered a special cake topper for the newlyweds — so cute!

Later in the evening, Katelynn changed from her wedding dress to stylish cocktail dress. But, she wasn’t quite ready to be lifted in the air!

John and Lindsay are such a joy, and they have one of our favorite qualities: they were up for anything! Nothing inspires Joe and I more than a client who takes our suggestions as challenges to accomplish! Their venue choice of Mount Merino Manor in Hudson, NY had a quaint charm that was enjoyable. And they also had a bagpiper at their ceremony, the 3rd wedding in October we saw this!

They arranged for a first look so we could hit up a couple other locations for portraits. Don’t you just love John’s emotion?

Joe found one of the two moments we had a little sun that day. Since the forecast was calling for monsoon-like conditions, we really lucked out!

Michelle and Jeffery could not have asked for a better day to get married. Blue skies, an cool autumnal breeze, and a great bridal party all contributed to the joy of their wedding day. I helped out my good friend Brian shoot this wonderful couple, and they were so much fun to be with all day, starting at the church, then off to the beach for for an awesome view of the Great South Bay! Their night could not have been any more complete with a beautiful late-summer sunset.

My friend Andrew Reilly asked me to come along and shoot the wedding of a college friend with him. The Grand Cascades Lodge at Crystal Springs Resort is a beautiful place to host a wedding, with top notch service and food. Niki and Chet had a great bunch of people there!

I started with Niki and Chet seeing each other for the first time at the lodge entrance:

I had originally planned on being in California on this weekend, and plans didn’t work out when the airfare prices never came down for the trip. When Brian called to ask if I was available to second shoot a wedding for his studio, it seemed like a good idea as I was suddenly available. As it turned out, Bill and Jackie were ideal to photograph. Their mix of Long Island and Chicago wedding guests really knew how to party and maybe even made a whole new dance! Their choice of quaint Smithtown Landing was lovely, and I truly wish them the best.

I started over at Jackie’s childhood home, just down the street from both the church and reception venue. Her parents have obviously spent quite some time landscaping their backyard, and we made use of it for some portraits.

Oyster Point Hotel Wedding Photography

It took Phyllis two years to plan her wedding to Michael, and you can see the results. She is a monogram queen and spent quite a bit of time adding crystal accents throughout many areas of decor. They hired a great band for the reception and rocked out all night to a lot of good old New Jersey music.

Addalia’s Floral Gardens did a great job on the beautiful centerpieces! A quick Polish tradition with Michael’s family before entering the reception We love this ring shot! Phyllis honored Michael’s love of boats by decorating it with her love of crystals. I can see this sitting on a mantle next to a gorgeous, framed wedding portrait.

I had the pleasure to shoot for my good friend Brian this past weekend at the Larkfield Manor. Christian and Jason are just great people to be around – so much energy and they are lots of fun! Even though the spring showers held off, the nice warm temperatures and and gentle breeze made it a great day to get married.

What a great moment… Daddy seeing his daughter on her wedding day!

After their ceremony, we headed to the beach for portraits… where we were greeted by some awesome fog and mist!

Melane and Ryan: Central Park Wedding

Melane and Ryan had more than a perfect spring day when they tied the knot in NY’s Central Park. Melane is from Texas and Ryan is originally from Indiana. They both thought it would great to get married somewhere like New York! With temperatures in the low 90′s, the couple had a great summer-like day as they said their vows under the big cherry blossom tree in front of the fountain at Cherry Hill. We had a great time walking arounf the park with the both of them; there are so many wonderful places to shoot in the park… I wish we had more time… we could have been there all day! Following the ceremony was an intimate reception at Sarabeth’s Restaurant on Central Park South.

Fountainhead Reception for Sadiaka and Yusha

After a small ceremony at home on Saturday, we arrived for Sunday’s reception at the Fountainhead in New Rochelle. After Friday’s beautiful Sangeet, we were not at all surprised by the beautiful decor for the reception, nor Sadia’s gorgeous gown.
