Your Stylist Suggests: Summer Weather Clothing!

You have no idea how much joy it brings me realizing I was overdue for a summer clothing inspiration post! We just had a client remind us that sweaters are great, but not for a humid June day, and I started dreaming of ditching my own sweaters in a drawer somewhere at the back of my closet. That said, I can’t wait to see what everyone’s wearing for all the portrait session we have lined up for this coming spring and summer. If you’re in need of a little guidance, it’s ok to ask questions.

As with all our suggestions, in larger groups we do suggest coordinating colors, lots of layers to add some individuality, and accessories to bring it all together. The first board contains items from J Crew in colors of yellow, brown, orange and blue. For the boy looks I thought the pirate theme was adorable without being so in-your-face about it, and girls looks simple. That little brown jacket I have on the girl look is for either boys or girls and would look great on little boys as well. The key with all these items, even if they have a pattern or graphic, is subtly including it. Notice the little girls’ shoes don’t flash lights or have Dora’s smiling face glaring out at you, and notice the plaid band on the boys’ hat blends in with the rest of the coloring in his shirt.

For the next board, I went to the Old Navy website and found an airy mix of clothing for the whole family for those hot days. Bonus, this could easily double for Memorial Day wear!

We’re back, we’re live, and we’re on Style Me Pretty again!

Well, this has been a whirlwind of a week! In addition to moving, and all the icky packing and losing things, and finding kitchen utensils in bedroom dresser drawers, our blog was hacked. So instead of being able to fully focus on our move, Joe was stuck installing and removing and reloading our blog multiple times. The good news is that it looks like we’re back for good now, and that we only lost one blog post. The bad news is that we probably have a few extra grays now.

So if you’ve already seen this for the 12 hours or so it was, we apologize for the duplicate. Of course, we’d love for you to enjoy these images all over again!

Style Me Pretty always has a beautiful collection of images, but we’re a bit biased about the wonderful images they shared this past Monday on their blog of Jordyn and Dan’s awesome Hudson Valley wedding in Garrison, NY. It was our first wedding of the season and we’re thrilled everyone loves the images as much as we do.

Even better, since it’s been a few days since this feature we’ve seen such an amazing outpouring of compliments for Jordyn’s styling. The comments are so fun to read!

I swear, we’re working!

Our poor little neglected blog, I know. But I swear, we’re working! We’re just working really hard at lots of things that aren’t very visible right now. I’ve been designing albums, Joe’s been taking a business class, and we’re both getting ready to move to a new apartment by painting and packing.

The good news is, some of these things are ready for a debut!

We updated the website, including background to match the blog, and many of the galleries. In particular, all the galleries on the portrait side are updated.

We got our new proofing system ready for launch! Yes, this means the old system is gone now, but the new system is so much faster, and slightly prettier.

We have several engagement shoots coming up in the next few weeks, so stay tuned for some great blog posts coming soon.

seeing with new eyes

It’s been two weeks since I had LASIK.

I was fairly nervous, even if I pretended not to be. My eyes are a kind of a big deal, not only for everyday living, but the career I’ve chosen. Joe took me on a Wednesday afternoon and by sunset I had new eyes, better vision if hazy, and was sleeping by nine in the evening. If you really want to be grossed out, head on over to my facebook page where I posted some youtube clips of the procedure.

The funny thing is, now that I wake up in the morning and can actually see the alarm clock, I’m fascinated by blurriness. And since I’m still putting eye drops in all the time, I’ll see a hazy, blurry dreamworld for a few seconds before the drops absorb. And now that I can actually see, I wonder what the world looks like with only vague shapes and colors.

I’ve spent the past couple of mornings exploring a bit. I have a love affair with magnolia trees and this is such a beautiful time of year to be photographing. But more, the textures and grainy veins of the petals lead me further into my first real exploration of the blurry world before me.

This is chai tea. There will be no photos of coffee, since coffee smells nasty and I don’t like it. And no amount of introspection will change that.

Published! Home Business Magazine Cover!

We were commissioned once again to photograph the cover article for Home Business Connection magazine a few weeks ago – and the April issue was just released! We think the publishers did a great job selecting photos of this gentleman. We did most of the shoot on the beach at Long Beach, NY the first week of March – and it was BITTER COLD and WINDY that day!!!

Here is one that didn’t make the publisher’s cut, but Britney and I like this shot; it’s one of our favorites from the shoot. You can’t tell it was 38 degrees that day!

Winter Wonderland Photos

These images are all by Joe, as I shot film on our trip to New Hampshire. These images were all taken while we were on a weekend trip to East Hill Farm. We spent the entire drive up on Friday afternoon going from snow to rain to sleet and then to fluffy snow to wet snow, so on and so forth. However, that night the snow fell lightly and we woke up to a winter wonderland on Saturday morning. I’ll get around to developing the film next month.

Travel + Availability

Joe and I are thrilled to be heading off to Las Vegas for WPPI this week! Among other things we’ll be learning with the best of the best and seeing what’s coming for the photography industry. After that we’ll be in California for a few shoots, then heading out to Massachusetts for a week of much-needed vacation.

Las Vegas – Thursday, March 4 till Wednesday, March 10

California – March 10 till Saturday, March 13

Massachusetts – March 14-21 (during this week we really are vacationing! So please allow delays in reaching us.)
